“A restless sonic explorer” – The Quietus

Estonian singer, violinist, electronic artist, and composer Maarja Nuut comes to London’s Pickle Factory for a live performance of her latest album, Hinged

Although classically trained, Nuut’s musical interests span a range of rich musical worlds, leading her to explore a number of disparate genres: Hindustani classical music, Estonian folk, and most recently the outer limits of looping and electronic sounds. Fueled by her instincts and curiosity, such exploration comes from a desire to probe each world’s musical language, techniques, and expressional qualities – elements she swirls into her own mesmerising art.

Released in the midst of lockdown, Hinged, with its curious vocal loopings and hypnotic rhythms, has been described as “dreamlike and edgy… the right kind of weird” (MOJO). It is a stunning piece of work that stitches together pieces of electro-folk and ambient space jazz to create what feels like a vast universe of sonic art.
